On 13 May 2020, we kicked off our first ever virtual Leadership Masterclass, featuring speakers from The Birthday Collective. Designed to equip and enable young leaders through bite-sized leadership lessons and dialogues, this year, our theme focused on Leading Change Through Adversity, diving into how youths can deepen their leadership practice through active citizenry. The Leadership Masterclass was designed to equip and enable young leaders through bite-sized leadership lessons and dialogues, exploring the art of influence in times of adversity.

EPISODE ONE: OVERCOMING ADVERSITIES

On 13 May 2020, we hosted Ms. Sharon Pakir who shared her story on overcoming her medical trauma and near-death experience. She expounded on how adversity can come in different shapes and sizes and that leadership is a lonely journey, but as leaders, it is our responsibility to build resilience.

On 27 May 2020, we hosted Mr. Choy Yong Cong who shared that in order to lead through a crisis, leaders should lead by empathy, over and beyond leading by example. When things are difficult, followers need to know that the leader is in it with them. The only way for them to know is for the leaders to be physically, emotionally and mentally present with them.

BONUS EPISODE: LEADERSHIP KEYNOTE

On 3 June 2020, our Chief Training Officer, Mr. Sean Kong wrapped up the three episodes through the concepts of volition, passion, and courage. He shared the common unifying factor each speaker exemplified was how the clarity of passion gave them the power of volition, as well as strength and courage to overcome fear.
