TIMOTHY LOW

Chief of Product & Innovation

Tim considers the art of mobilising others to impact among the noblest of pursuits and strives to daily achieve that with the team at Halogen. He oversees all operations, process innovation, strategic planning, and new business initiatives – aiming to break barriers for the team to do their good work. Passionate about leadership and community building, Tim focuses on growing staff capability as he grows with them, pushing for ever-greater heights in both performance and culture. At his downtime, he drinks too much coffee, plays too many Apple Arcade games, watches too much Disney+, raps along to Hamilton, trades options at night, and reposts his wife’s Instagram stories of their little girl.

JAMES GOH

Chief Experience Officer

James is passionate about people development, and actively seeks to tap on his expertise in organisation development and human resource to enhance the social impact of Halogen in Singapore. As an advocate of youths, he regularly works with young people from all walks of life, volunteering as a mentor, coach and youth leader, helping them achieve their aspirations. James enjoys experimenting with new experiences and picking up different skills, often coming out with new recipes in the kitchen, learning a new musical instrument, or simply trying out a new board game.

HYDER ALBAR

Head of Social Innovation

Hyder believes in equitable access to opportunities. He is energised by developing partnerships with others interested in building social leveling experiences that connect young people regardless of socio-economic, academic, racial, and religious differences. He thrives at the intersection of consulting, fundraising, strategic partnerships, and revenue strategy. At Halogen, Hyder supports the organisations income goals by leading fundraising innovation, supporting steady-state social innovation efforts, and exploring strategic partnerships for blue ocean projects that align with Halogen’s organisational goals. He paints miniatures in his free time.

LYDIA HONG

Head of Operations

Lydia runs the events at Halogen, which includes managing our annual National Young Leaders’ Day and our National Young Leader Award. With an eye for design and a knack for project management, Lydia is energised by a good challenge. A known egg enthusiast, she is always looking at things sunny side up. If she’s not organising events, she can be found organising her home, or out cycling in nature to soothe her soul.

The NFTE programme has been a long but rewarding journey. It has allowed me to improve my presentation skills and developed my ability to think and execute my ideas effectively. I was proud to represent my school in the finals and am thankful for the friends that supported me throughout the process.

Ngiam Xin Wei is the Managing Director of Deliveries (Singapore) at Grab. She has been at Grab since 2015 and has taken on various roles, including incubating new business units such as carpooling and shuttle services, launching the GrabCar service across several markets in Southeast Asia, and overseeing pricing and economics across Grab’s markets. Prior to joining Grab, Xin Wei worked at the Boston Consulting Group and in the Singapore Government.

Lisa Liaw, is the Director and Financial Controller for Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines at American Express. In 2020, Lisa won the election to the American Chamber of Commerce Singapore Chair and was the first woman to do so in more than 10 years. She had been a Board Governor of AmCham Singapore from 2016 to 2022 and Chair from 2020 to 2022 . She also sat on the Advisory Council on Community Relations in Defence, established by the Singapore Ministry of Defence from 2020 to 2022. Lisa is currently a Council Member of the Singapore Business Federation (“SBF”). In 2022 to 2023, Lisa chaired SBF Alliance for Action on Business Leadership Development.

Daryl Png, Assistant Vice-President of the New Ventures division at EDB, collaborates with companies to co-build new ventures while also launching initiatives to foster the growth of Singapore’s broader venturing ecosystem such as EDB’s Corporate Venture Launchpad program which aims to help companies to grapple with the unknowns of building a new venture outside their core business. His experience in successfully launching a startup from the ground up and spearheading product innovation and strategy in leading financial institutions has equipped him with valuable insights and the capability to integrate methodologies that enable different types of companies to become more agile and effective in growing their businesses.

DIVAGARAN KALAIVANAN

Academy Executive

As an academy Executive for programmes, Diva takes great delight in impacting the next generation, drawing from his own experiences as a youth. With his expertise in youth leadership and engagement, he leads the charge in managing and executing Halogen’s empowering training programmes, tailored to support and uplift today’s youth. Having spent nine years in the Rotaract youth organization, Diva’s involvement has further enriched his understanding of youth empowerment. Beyond his dedication to the cause, he finds joy in exploring various destinations worldwide and engaging in competitive bowling, showcasing his dynamic personality while leaving a positive impact on others.

JONATHAN LIM

Creative Designer

Jonathan spent a good number of years creating tiny little banners that followed you everywhere you went on the Internet. Believing that knowledge, like wisdom, should be passed on, Jonathan sought out a path where he could be in a position of influence to the youths coming up behind him.. like an Uncle Ben to a Peter Parker, “With great power comes great responsibility.” He spends his free time doing the laundry and cleaning the house. If there is more time after that, he’ll read some comic books or play video games.

Yap Rui Xuan Charlotte

Charlotte is a firm believer in the transformative power of leadership to empower others and drive positive change in society. As President of her school’s student council, she is dedicated to serving those around her and taking meaningful steps to improve their lives. Her passion lies in uplifting children from underprivileged backgrounds, ensuring they have equal access to opportunities that can shape their future.

Clarissa is a passionate advocate for equality in holistic educational opportunities and the inclusion of immigrants in Singapore. Through her leadership, she has spearheaded multiple projects to provide accessible educational and enrichment programs for children and youth, and co-founded a project dedicated to promoting social integration among immigrants. Her selfless service aims to inspire future generations of young leaders to become positive influencers in their communities.

Ke Yue was once a quiet girl with tons of ideas in her head that she didn’t know how to express. Thanks to an eventful, 4-year-and-counting journey of public speaking, she is proud that it is no longer a problem for her anymore. Nashra is a passionate human rights advocate creating change by raising awareness of issues faced by underprivileged communities. She actively volunteers in diverse communities, including ex-offenders, the elderly, people with special needs, and lower-income families, empowering them to realise their full potential. Megan Therese Goh Xuan Ying

Megan is an ambitious and driven leader who embraces the principles of servant leadership and community service. Fueled by her love for interacting with young children, she dedicates her time to volunteering for underprivileged kids. In her free time, Megan finds joy in reading, traveling, and dancing. With a motto of “Live every day like it’s your last,” she cultivates gratitude for every moment.

Loi Yi Xing Charlotte

17, National Junior College

Charlotte has a strong passion for helping others, especially those with intellectual disabilities. She is the co-founder of a social enterprise, s0ulove, that aims to raise awareness and reduce social stigma surrounding the intellectually disabled through experiential learning. Together with her team, she leads a group of 100+ volunteers from 20 different schools in planning and executing volunteering activities for the intellectually disabled.

Lim Yann Ting

17, NUS High School of Math and Science

An aspiring changemaker who merges her passion for sports and social impact, Yann Ting is a member of the Kampong Glam Youth Network, and actively connects with diverse communities, promoting healthy lifestyles and enriching lives. She believes in leading by example, valuing teamwork and creativity, and providing support and empathy. Her dedication to making a difference shines through her actions and commitment to community engagement.

Kong U Ham

U Ham believes in giving a voice to those unheard in society, by putting herself out there for them. As an avid baker, she hopes to channel her interests to a good cause. As such, she founded her own advocacy group Pawsitivebakes to improve cat welfare by raising awareness about the plight of cats and organises bake sales to raise funds for Cat Welfare Society.

Shan Jun has a natural affinity to learning and growing aside her peers. Committed to leveraging her passions to serve the community, she started Project TheWriteChance in 2021, to increase passion for literary arts among youths in Singapore. As a youth passionate about international affairs, she and her team is constantly working towards the integration of human trafficking victims around the world.

Keegan Goh Yu Jie

16, Anglo-Chinese School (Independent)

Keegan is a passion-driven youth who is intrigued in exploring new opportunities to uplift the disadvantaged. Having a keen global outlook due to his interests in debate and Model United Nations, Keegan strives to empower youths to become globally aware citizens. Keegan strongly believes that youths have the power to shape the future, and hopes to galvanise more youths to champion innovative social causes.

Kairav Vish Iyer

Kairav is one with many passions, such as the guitar and golf. By virtue of his mother, Kairav has a growing passion for migrant workers and strives to provide them with the living standards they deserve, such as teaching them how to play the guitar. He hopes to use his talent in the guitar to spread joy and boost their confidence amongst the migrant workers.

Jessie is a dynamic and driven leader with an entrepreneurial spirit. As the founder and Executive Director of InTech, a youth-led organisation that promotes greater youths in the tech scene, Jessie is a natural leader who is not afraid to step up. She enjoys spearheading community projects, creating meaningful impact. She also particularly enjoys slow walks with friends and winding down with good music.

Jeenaev Nimish Shah

17, United World College of South East Asia

Known for his thoughtfulness, empathy, creativity, and analytical skills, Jeenaev has a deep passion for economics, envisioning a world that is more sustainable, equitable, and prosperous. He actively advocates for fair and sustainable economic growth by writing articles for NGOs and establishing service groups in school and plans to pursue further studies in public policy to expand his outreach and create a greater impact.

As an Operations Executive, she engages youths through our programmes and ensures they are equipped with the best resources and materials for their learning. You can find her drumming away with Damaru Singapore or mostly hanging out with my family & friends during her free time.

Breaking barriers with all things content is Maisie’s passion – from developing marketing strategies to handling social media, she has a keen eye for storytelling, and is deeply invested in strengthening brand-consumer relationships, and creating impact through her work. Outside of work, you’ll find her baking, enjoying a cuppa, and indulging her lit nerd tendencies through a good read.

Community Executive

Being the bridge between Halogen and the community, Jermaine manages all youth stakeholders and volunteers that pass through Halogen’s doors; from recruitment to engagement to development. Providing opportunities for young people to meet like-minded peers, network, and grow as individuals are Jermaine’s driving factors. In her downtime, you can find her in the kitchen, either covered in flour or fighting with the wok as she would be baking or cooking – always ready to challenge herself in trying a new recipe!

KELLY ANG

Operations Executive

Kelly believes that every person has the potential to grow and that the environment has a part to play. She engages youths through Halogen’s programmes and supports the Academy & Operations team in equipping youths with developmental resources and creating a nurturing environment for growth. In her free time, she enjoys cycling along parks and waterways.

The NFTE programme has brought out the confidence in my students and has encouraged them to adopt a growth mindset by taking what they have learned in school and applying it beyond the classroom. Curious about the best methods to connect various audiences to a brand, Nurin dives deep into data insights to craft and optimise campaigns that spreads the brand awareness of the organisation. She is a strong believer of seeking something to learn from everyone she meets, especially youths! Outside of work, you’ll find her reading fantasy novels, working on art, or catching up with her favourite celebrities on social media. Her greatest accomplishments include having crocheted herself the ‘Harry Styles’ JW Anderson cardigan and growing juicy, edible tomatoes from seed.

Senior Finance Executive

As the right-hand man to the Head of Finance in Halogen, Danial handles day-to-day transactions and ensures that funds are allocated appropriately across all departments. His strong belief in youth enrichment brought him to Halogen and in his free time, he enjoys racing on Gran Turismo and a game of poker with his friends.

NFTE provides a platform for students to learn real-world values and thinking skills through entrepreneurship. The opportunity granted to the students in getting up close and personal with the corporate volunteers adds a new dimension to experiential learning. Passionate about influencing and empowering others around her for the betterment of the community, Yun Xuan wishes to contribute more actively to the community, especially through raising awareness for Multiple Sclerosis. Samuel vehemently believes in the importance of helping and supporting others, and proactively finds ways to provide learning opportunities and quality education. As the Founder and Secretary-General of the pilot project Nexus Model United Nations, he aims to positively impact youths through providing free-of-charge platforms to expand their horizons, and to learn and hone invaluable skills such as public speaking and problem-solving.

Samadrita is passionate about helping the underprivileged after involving herself in Model United Nations. Having spoken about global issues such as access to education and combatting the use of child labour, she volunteered to educate children who are socially marginalised in India. She’s also a part of the organisation committee for Singapore’s 24 hour Race, which helps to fund operations that rescue victims of modern day slavery.

Raenisha Sherridan

Raenisha is passionate about mental health, peer support, and believes in the importance of embracing students with mental health conditions. In her leadership, she sought to proactively work with her team to lead and effect change in school culture. Her buoyant and ardent personality, coupled with her passion, has helped her spearhead numerous initiatives, such as #YoloYiostipsforahappierme, to curate, design and deliver educationally meaningful content.

Rachel is passionate about food sustainability, which builds on all her interests. She is particularly fascinated by ecological agriculture, and is researching the biodiversity footprint of smallholder versus industrial palm oil plantations with NUS’ Bioecon lab. During her free time, she writes on CongAnd.co, a site that she started to bridge the dearth of online information on Southeast Asian food.

Nicole Teo Wanyi

Growing up in a comfortable home environment, Nicole has always been acutely aware of her privilege. She thus seeks to give back to her community in as many ways possible. Nicole is the co-founder of ember/ace, a student-led service project aiming to empower the elderly and promote intergenerational bonding. She is also an active volunteer at National Kidney Foundation Singapore. In her free time, she enjoys reading, boxing, and hiking!

Kah Shuen has an entrepreneurial spirit and vivacious appetite for learning and growing. Brimming with passion and drive, she strives to make a positive change. She is the co-founder and CEO of a social enterprise that is working on an innovative shelf to help the elderly and disabled. Together with her peers, she has launched 2 community projects to increase mental health literacy and acceptance, by integrating migrant workers into the community. She also organised the Raffles Policy Dialogue on gender equality, attended by students from 43 schools.

Jen Ee has a genuine desire to drive positive change. She is an advocate for female empowerment and is working on a Community Problem Solving project to help girls challenge gender conventions. She is also embarking on an Advocacy Mentorship Programme with Girl Guides Singapore to encourage female entrepreneurship and research into the economic impact of closing the gender wage gap. Through her work, she hopes to spark change through collaboration and building mutual understanding.

With an intense passion for social issues, Hazeem co-founded 2 non-profits, ALittleChange in 2016 and The Signpost Project in 2019. He modeled his non-profit journey after one of his favourite quotes: ‘We are the world, a tiny fraction of it. And when we love and change someone, we mold together a tiny little broken piece of the universe’.

Outside of work, he is a Rhodes scholar who is planning to pursue two Masters at the University of Oxford.

Group Director (Crisis Strategy & Operations Group), Ministry of Health

Dinesh was appointed as Group Director, Crisis Strategy and Operations Group, MOH in July 2020 to provide leadership and oversee the translation of the Ministry’s mission and intent into operational strategy and plans, preventing and controlling emerging infectious diseases by ensuring that they are supported with robust systems, processes, medical preparedness and response to civil disasters and national emergencies, in order to optimise health outcomes for Singaporeans. Most recently, Dinesh and his team led the rollout of the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme in Singapore. Co-Founder, Break the Cycle

Andrew was incarcerated for rioting in a gang fight during his late teens. Fast forward to today, Andrew is now paying it forward with the help of many others who had believed in him in his transformation journey.

Andrew pays it forward through a ground-up initiative called Break The Cycle which he co-founded with his friends, Joseph Ho and Carter Ng. Break the Cycle uses cycling as a medium to support ex-offenders break their cycle of recidivism.

Founder, ItsRainingRaincoats

Dipa’s encounters with migrant workers eventually led to the birth of the non-profit organisation ItsRainingRaincoats. Over the years, Dipa has grown the organisation from a one-woman operation to a team of more than 1500 volunteers committed to improving the lives of migrant workers.

In addition to her non-profit work, Dipa is a well established Harvard educated lawyer who is currently working as the Assistant General Counsel at Singtel, and is a two-time recipient of the President’s Volunteerism and Philanthropy Award.

Saleemah is an international development professional, social entrepreneur, and gender equality advocate. She first started her career in the private sector before moving on to work for UN Women and UNDP in Asia and South America.

Founder, Green Nudge

A public officer turned social enterprise founder, Li Seng the founder of Green Nudge, aims to create a shift in the way waste is created and dealt with. He was inspired by Rima Chai, the “Tyre Lady” who dragged a tyre with her at marathons around the world to advocate for recycling.

Through Green Nudge, his interests in sustainability were turned into learning opportunities for others, such as, organising a dating clean-up for singles, collecting preloved soap bars to recycle, and providing gifts to migrant workers.

With a keen interest in sustainable development, Farah began her journey as an undergraduate working on her thesis about environmental education for kindergarten children. She believes that it is vital to be inclusive in the sustainability journey, which inspired her to start Repair Kopitiam, an initiative to combat the buy-and-throw culture in Singapore by reviving the repair culture.

She is also a co-founder of FiTree, an Islamic environmental group, and a Singapore Futures Fellow, where she co-designs and delivers futures programmes for NUS Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy Executive Education.

When Jeff was a boy, growing up on the Island of Anglesey in North Wales, he was caught in a violent storm at sea on his fishing boat. This made him fascinated by the earth’s climate and its complexities. This interest eventually led him to pursue a career in Climate Change research.

Jeff is currently the Head of the Climate Impact Branch at the Centre for Climate Research Singapore, and also a Climate Change Advisor to the National Youth Achievement Award Council.

Sean believes that good work needs to be measured by outcomes and not just intent. A self-critic and deep thinker, he leads the team to build and improve Halogen’s programmes & interventions to have a sustainable and scalable impact. He is also passionate about helping organisations build self-reliance and capability in their people development solutions. In an alternate reality, Sean would be a motorsports racer or adventure junkie. Xena spends most of her time in training rooms with young people, she hopes to let them see and believe in the influence they possess to own their narrative. Xena toggles different hats from curriculum development to volunteer management and youth-led projects. You will also occasionally catch her popping up like a ball of energy on Halogen’s Social Media channels! Netflix and Disney+ are her favourite apps after work while clocking in a few boxes of chocolates beside her hamster and bunny. If not, you will probably find her on the beach with her notebook doodling away.

Chew Hui takes great delight that she get to impact the next generation after being on the receiving end as a youth. With her experience in youth leadership and engagement, she fronts Halogen’s training workshops, operations, and volunteer engagements. Puden believes that everyone has the power to give and the ability to make positive impact onto others. Through strategic partnerships with institutions, corporations, and organisations, he strives to bring about meaningful leadership programmes and impactful mentorship conversations. Puden also looks into the business development and relationship management for the leadership and mentoring team to drive growth and ensure relevancy in the ever changing youth landscape. Outside of work, you will find Puden either tending to his underwater world (aquarium) and his mini forest (carnivorous plants), immersed in his Nintendo switch games or having a good game of Mahjong or board games with his family and friends!

Mansha handles all financial matters at Halogen, ensuring checks and balances are in place. She believes that one need not be in the frontlines to make a difference in society. Chloe coordinates the Entrepreneurship Programme in Halogen by bringing together different stakeholders from Corporate Volunteers to Educators, helping to build an ecosystem for our youths to activate their entrepreneurial mindsets and thrive. Being able to create meaningful connections with people from different walks of life is what Chloe values most about being on the entrepreneurship team. She loves hearing from others and understanding what they believe in. Raye Padit, a fashion designer on a mission to promote sustainable fashion in Singapore and beyond. In just three years, Raye founded Singapore’s and Asia’s first-ever retail space for swapping and upcycling apparel, The Fashion Pulpit and two non-profits that advocate for sustainable fashion, Connected Threads Asia and Swapaholic (from January 2017 – April 2018).

In her role as Director at UBS Evolve, Veronika is responsible for facilitating and advising on internal innovation initiatives, sourcing & partnering with external fintech solutions, and identifying investment opportunities for future growth. Before joining UBS, she was helping Grab Financial execute on their SuperApp strategy and DigiBank ambitions by leading the Product Development for a new Wealth Management Platform called GrabInvest (through acquisition of B2B startup Bento Invest) and the product launch of their first micro-investment proposition, recently launched in Sinagapore. Anthea is a strong believer of leadership from one’s values; from who you are within your core. Despite weathering many storms in life, she continues to be fascinated by possibilities and sees her position of leadership as a privilege that comes with great responsibility. Anthea calls herself a full time-human and a part-time everything else, which includes being an entrepreneur, an author, and a social advocate.

Nigel Yong, Assistant Manager, Group Corporate Communications

Nigel has always been fascinated by how a well-strung set of words can shape perceptions and inspire change. He views the art of communication as making flower arrangements of the facts, placing them so the wilted and less attractive petals are hidden by sturdy blooms. The self-proclaimed petrol head started his career as an automotive journalist, covering just about anything and everything about cars and developing content ideas. Today, he is a corporate communicator focused on adapting the communication of Subaru and Nissan in Japan to the rest of Asia’s market characteristics and specific needs. Nigel graduated from Temasek Polytechnic with a Diploma in Communications and Media Management. His mentee can look forward to over-enthusiast conversations about cars, practicing the art of spin and maybe even the occasional spirited drive.

I am a member of the bank’s Leadership Institute and I manage the bank’s leadership programmes. I work with the team to ensure that relevant leadership programmes are identified and delivered across the entire organization seamlessly. I’ve spent time across 6 different industries and almost ways in learning & development. In my spare time, I am online battling others through MMORPG or strategy games. When I am bored I will challenge myself with mysteries and thrillers from Netflix and HBO. Eventually I’ll sleep.

I am extremely passionate about learning and strongly believe that intelligence is not static. Everyone can upskill provided the right opportunity. My current role is supporting the Technology & Operations team in their learning ecosystem. It’s an exciting journey with technology fast evolving and we are constantly upskilling and reskilling, preparing our employees to be future-ready in the face of digitalization. My prior experiences include working in an international bank driving retail banking transformation, client experience, digital adoption as well as strategic business planning.

As a mother of 2 teenage boys, I am constantly busy cooking, baking and experimenting new dishes which is not only therapeutic for me, but a great joy when you see the happy faces enjoying your final product. I have just recently completed my part-time EMBA and am currently looking for a new course to pursue.

One important skill which any new job seeker should have is agility. In today’s VUCA world, it is imperative that we need to be agile in order to quickly pivot and adapt to stay relevant.

I enjoy working with my colleagues in HR and other stakeholders to deliver career experiences that are life-fulfilling for our employees. No one day is the same. We may be creating a new virtual festival one day and finding ways to attract more diverse talent around the world on another. Regardless of the work we do, I can always count on my colleagues to work as one team to deliver great experiences for both employees and prospective job seekers to position DBS as an employer of choice.

During my free time, I enjoy sharing my yoga practice with others, especially with seniors. We live in an aging society and we can all do more to help seniors lead more active, healthier lives.

I am not sure if I am qualified to share what I think that one skill young job seekers should have. I am often amazed by the range of talent, experience and skills young job seekers have today and my only suggestion is to help employers better appreciate how that richness and depth would be relevant and meaningful to the organisation.

Choy is a Deputy Director at the Economic Development Board, his current portfolio includes working with companies to enhance the economic landscape in Singapore to provide good jobs for Singaporeans. He started his career in the military and the Ministry of Defence, where he served in the Singapore Army as commander of the 2nd Battalion. Apart from leading army personnels, Choy also managed bilateral and multilateral engagements in ASEAN, US, and Israel. Nicolette Tan

By profession, Nicolette is a policymaker of technology and healthcare. AMANDA CHONG

Amanda Chong co-founded ReadAble, a non-profit organisation that runs weekly English literacy classes for children and migrant women in a low-income neighbourhood since 2014, with the aim of improving social mobility.

She is a lawyer trained in Cambridge and Harvard, who writes poems on her lunch breaks. A winner of the Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award, her poetry has been engraved on the Marina Bay Helix Bridge.

Amanda is interested in exploring themes of gender and power in both her poetry and academic writing, which has been published in the Harvard Journal of Law and Gender. Her creative work has appeared in Monocle, the Straits Times and Quarterly Literary Review Singapore.

ISAAC ONG

Isaac’s life’s mission is to use music, media and messages to transform society positively. Having gone on his first humanitarian trip when he was 17 years old to a refugee camp along the borders of Thailand, his life was radically transformed and today he spends his life finding ways to love and serve others. He started his own social enterprise called Colours Global, a company that architects creative solutions to tackle social problems across Asia. They are presently at work with the Singapore Girls Home, helping to rehabilitate youths at risk through music and art, and assisting a NGO in Batam thats seeks to provide a better life for the children living in the slums. Isaac also uses his media platforms to bring awareness about social issues around Asia, and have been featured on both local and international news. He was also a finalist on The Voice Singapore and Malaysia.

NURSHAHIDAH ROSLIE A.K.A THE SNIPER

Nurshahidah is Singapore’s first professional female boxer and the founder of Juggernaut Studio. She represented Team Singapore Boxing in the South East Asian Games 2015 and her dedication to her craft has helped her progress forward and gain more exposure. Her professional record of 8 wins and 2 defeats brought about her nickname ‘The Sniper’ with 6 wins via knockout. She currently holds 4 Championship belts and was also awarded WBC Asia Female Champion of 2017.

As a strong advocator for women’s rights, she would like to see female boxing in Singapore grow to a higher level, with more women stepping up to the task of being a professional boxer. She hopes to be the source of inspiration for local female boxing scene to thrive.

Tong Yee

Tong Yee truly believes in the value of creating authentic and meaningful conversations among stakeholders. He believes that clarity in a shared narrative is a crucial intervention in the complexity that this current century presents. Having initially co-founded the School of Thought to promote innovation in character education and civic learning, he now leads The Thought Collective — one of the largest groups of social enterprises in Singapore. As a social entrepreneur and civil society leader in Singapore, his bodies of work span across creating sustainable community space, experience design, curriculum design, narrative crafting and intervention, and organisational development. He currently sits on a number of national committees, serving as a Member of the National Youth Council, the ACCORD Council (defense), the Families for Life council, the Media Literacy Council, and is on the Advisory Committee for Youth Corps Singapore.

Li Ying

Ying is the brainchild of Li Ying – elusive, instinctive and arty. Using fabrics as her canvas, she creates wearable art by translating her inspirations and thoughts into one-of-a-kind art pieces using abstract brush strokes dipped in a whimsical watercolour palette.

Ying mentions, “I felt that the market has a gap in the availability of unique pieces, and I wanted to go beyond fashion and inspire. I am a strong believer of how less is more, but adding something exceptional to the ‘ less’ can bring out one’s personality and I hope to use my paintings to do that. Inspired by the everyday, my art always tells stories.”

Aiken Chia

Aiken Chia is a host, actor and producer of Food King by Night Owl Cinematics.

Off-camera, he serves as a young-adults leader/mentor to a connect group in his local church. Internationally, he is committed to humanitarian work specifically in My Family Home, Kathmandu – a children’s home that takes in children who are at risk.

Aiken is passionate about leadership, creativity, psychology, art and music, and social justice.

Fann Wong

Fann Wong is a Singaporean actress, singer and model signed to Catwalk Asia, an artiste management company from Taiwan.

Her acting talent started since childhood and after just a year in the television industry, her role in Chronicle of Life (缘尽今生) led her to be the first actress to win both the Best Actress and Best Newcomer awards at Singapore’s Star Awards 1995. After gaining regional exposure and
popularity in Asia through various television productions, she became the first Singaporean actress to venture into Hollywood, playing a lead role in the 2003 film, Shanghai Knights.

Yuhui is a creative content creator for &whyte, who goes by the username – @Spoiltbytes. After working in an advertising industry for almost a decade, Yuhui decided to dedicate most of her time into the endless pit of social media content creation. She is active on Instagram which she uses the platform to share her dreams, inspirational quotes, travel adventures and her two fluffy cats.

Outside work she also loves to embark on projects that uses design and creative ideas for a social cause.

Joie Tan

Starting out on YouTube at the tender age of 14, Joie Tan began her musical journey by posting covers of vocal-heavy popular songs on the platform. Her renditions were met with tremendously positive reception, giving her opportunities to go from bedroom covers to live performances.

A prolific fresh graduate, the 22-year-old is currently working towards her debut album that is set to release at the beginning of next year.

Josh Tan

An emcee, designer and art facilitator with an unabashed love for lettering, Josh has taught calligraphy workshops and hand-lettered a wide range of commissioned typographic works: from weddings, posters to even wall murals.

A 2014 TEDxYouth Singapore speaker, Josh has also emceed for events such as the 28th SEA Games and hosted in front of crowds of more than 50,000 at venues like the National Stadium and OCBC Aquatic Centre.

Josh most enjoys combining his love for design and facilitation and has worked as an artist-educator for organisations such as Playeum’s Children’s Centre for Creativity and the YMCA Y-Stars, a group of young adults with intellectual disabilities.

As each year passes by, I have the privilege of witnessing the boost of confidence in each student throughout their NFTE journey. The students go through various planned activities that encourage them to speak out, progressively giving them chances to present in front of their class, finally pitching their business ideas within 6 minutes before a panel of esteemed judges.The sponsorship of the business attire brings about a newfound confidence in them as well. It is as the saying goes “Clothes make the man”, the change of the outward appearance alters the way they perceive themselves. This, coupled with their newfound knowledge in business ideation and planning as well as the support from volunteers, results in the shift of their own mindset. They surpass all our expectations and it brings me such great joy to hear them present with determination and self-belief. With each presentation, my heart grows with pride for my students and I will want all my colleagues to witness their growth as well.

Having people believe in you greatly influences who you think you are and what you think you are capable of, especially at a young and impressionable age. I volunteer with young people because in the same way others first believed in me, I hope to be able to do the same now for young people and witness them reach their potential and achieving their goals.

I am currently a Head of Department, overseeing the Student Management in Serangoon Secondary School. I have seen how young people have the drive and the potential to impact the communities in ways that even adults cannot. Their strength lies in their youthful tenacity to hold on to their ideals. I believe that young people can and should contribute to the betterment of their community. The way they act must be based on a properly guided set of beliefs and values. Sometimes, all they need are adults who believe in them and who are willing to guide them.

I am currently working at The Salvation Army Youth Development Centre as a Centre Manager. Young people are sometimes labelled by society with less positive terms like “youth-at-risk” or “strawberry generation” and this hinders them from rising up to the occasion. I believe that all of us are capable of sparking change in the life of a young person. Growing up, I’ve seen my relatives struggle with the results of the choices made in their youth, one reason being due to the lack of support and guidance received. I have come to realise that young people are at a vulnerable point in their lives because they are discovering their identities and the choices they make have real consequences. To me, the future of young people is similar to the process of clay moulding. Without the guidance of an experienced potter, the clay would never reach its’ full potential. I believe that volunteering with young people is a great chance to surprise yourself. More than just impacting the lives of young people, I’ve come to learn new things about myself and have changed for the better too.

Often times when I volunteer, I find myself not just imparting things, but receiving an exchange of ideas, concepts, and stories. I am passionate about volunteering with young people because I had the fortune of meeting many teachers, mentors, and kind souls as I was growing up. I believe they have had a strong influence on who I am today. That is why I wish to give back in the same way to young people now. Everyone faces different challenges, have different aspirations, and learn in different ways. I try my best to understand each individual as a person first before sharing what may be relevant to them. I believe we live in a world where young people can dream, and we can play a part in making their dreams come true!
