Dear Partner,

We have been following the ongoing developments of the 2019-nCoV outbreak and have noted on the additional precautionary measures by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Social and Family Development to minimise risk of community spread in Singapore issued on 04 February 2020. This was issued in light of the World Health Organization’s declaration of the virus outbreak as a public health emergency of international concern and Singapore’s first cases of local transmission.

Recognising the steps taken and led by the Singapore government, Halogen Foundation has had to assess our current programmes and events held in schools, agencies, and offices, consider the risks, and respond accordingly.

In view of the current situation, we wish to announce that The Halogen Ball will be rescheduled to Friday, 03 July 2020.

While our excitement to celebrate our 17th anniversary is not abated, we believe this is the socially responsible thing to do in light of the developments of the outbreak and precautions taken. We don’t know how the ongoing developments will play out but we cannot ignore the possibility that more cases may arise locally. As with all decisions, we can either choose to be overly cautious or we could take the chance and keep the dinner going. We’ve decided to err on being overly cautious.

We are also very pleased to also note that our Guest-of-Honour, President Halimah Yacob, has graciously accepted the postponement and will be at our dinner on 03 July 2020. All dinner arrangements will also be fully carried forward to the July date.

The theme of The Halogen Ball is Celebrate the Best of Us, and there isn’t a more appropriate time than now to do so. Even as we make plans for this postponement, frontline workers at our airports, hospitals, and clinics are working tirelessly round the clock to keep Singapore safe. If our SARS experience is anything to go by, these heroes often put their lives at risk to make people’s lives better. When we think about Celebrate the Best of Us, these are the ones we should truly celebrate at this time.

So starting 20 February, Halogen Foundation will through our social media Celebrate the Best of Us, share stories of Singaporeans and our fellow residents who give of themselves for all of us. While The Halogen Ball is now rescheduled to July, our mission and our theme continues. We’ll Celebrate the Best of Us together. Do follow us on our social media channels at Facebook and Instagram to participate in our campaign.

If you have any questions or clarifications to make, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at [email protected]. We look forward to your continued support, and for every one of us to continue to Celebrate The Best Of Us even in these uncertain times.

Do accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused. We trust you understand our reasons for doing so. We look forward to hosting you in July, do continue to take care of yourselves and those around you!

Regards and well-wishes,

Ms. Ivy Tse
